STRAY Nail Art Tutorial

We all know how amazing the covers of Spark and Stray are, they’re so striking and mirror the atmosphere of the books so perfectly. To celebrate the release of Stray, and the amazing covers that accompany the books, we have come up with a simple (and awesome) Stray themed nail art tutorial to help you show off that Spark Army pride! Mix up which designs you do on each nail to create your own individual Stray style. Feel free to experiment and see which designs and colours work best for you.

Nail polish colours. 

  • Top coat
  • Red
  • Bright blue
  • Black

Tools:

  • Sponge
  • White gel pen
  • Nail polish remover
  • Thin paint brush
  • Sticky tape
  • Scissors
  • Toothpick

ombre-nails
Ombre* Effect:
(*fancy gradient thing).

  1. Apply two coats of red.
  2. When dry, paint tips of the nails black.
  3. On a piece of paper paint a dollop of red and black next to each other. Mix the edges of the two paints with a toothpick or paint brush.
  4. Dip a wet sponge into the mixed colours and dab to blend the edges of the red and black.
  5. Once dry, apply the top coat and clean up with nail polish remover.

Stripes


Stripes:

  1. Apply two coats of red. Wait to dry completely.
  2. Cut thin strips of sticky tape. Firmly place the strips vertically onto the nail.
  3. Apply two coats of blue over the tape. Wait until it is completely dry.
  4. Remove strips carefully and apply top coat.

Tree:

  1. Apply two coats of red.
  2. When dry, dip the thin paint brush into the black nail polish.
  3. Draw jagged angular strokes to create the tree.
  4. Apply top coat.

lightening-nails
Lightning:

  1. Apply two coats of black.
  2. With a white gel pen, draw thin jagged lines for the lightning.
  3. Once dry, dab a thin layer of glitter polish at the top.
  4. Finish off with a top coat.
